The Diabetes Emergency Preparedness Coalition is a project funded by grants, donations and volunteers. Our goal is to help create a health emergency disaster preparation plan for Tangipahoa Parish residents.
It's important for individuals who are diabetics to remain prepared for emergencies and disasters, especially in rural areas.
The vision for this project was inspired by Faith Gurerra; an EMT at New Orleans Emergency Medical Services. Faith is a diabetic and during a major disaster in Louisiana, she lost access to her insulin.
Faith and I talked about it in detail and I utilized that experience to develop the DEPC Project. Today, we are working to help diabetics during disasters.
